EXPO 2027: Everything You Need to Know Before Coming to Belgrade

Belgrade 2027

Three months, four million visitors, a transformed city infrastructure — and the question everyone is asking: where to stay?

May 15 – Aug 15, 2027
Surčin, Belgrade

About EXPO 2027

In 2027, Belgrade will host the Specialised Expo — an international event held every few years that brings together pavilions from countries around the world. This year’s theme: «Play for Humanity» — sport and music as a universal language.

In practice, that means 92 days of shows, concerts, national showcases, and a whole lot of people in the city at the same time.

The site will include 7 exhibition pavilions, a National Stadium, and the Expo Village residential complex — which will become a regular residential neighbourhood after the event closes.

What’s On

93 days, 8,000+ events, 130+ countries. The programme is built around three sub-themes — each explored through a rotating schedule of exhibitions, performances, and live events.

🌱

Play as a path to healing and sustainability

Pavilions and events focused on how sport and creativity contribute to mental health, community resilience, and environmental thinking.

💡

Play as a driver of innovation and imagination

Technology, AI, and creative industries explored through interactive installations — including sound labs where visitors discover music hidden in everyday objects.

🎶

Music, performance, and visual art

Daily live performances — from floating stage concerts to murals being painted in real time. Something new every day across the 93-day run.

Good to know

Each country organises its own National Day — a full day of cultural programme, food, and performances. Check the official schedule at expobelgrade2027.org to plan around the countries you want to see.

Getting There

The expo site is in Surčin — the western part of the city, right next to Nikola Tesla Airport. By 2027, the transport picture here will look completely different.

🚆
BG Voz — city rail
A new line connecting the city centre (Prokop station) → Novi Beograd → Airport → EXPO. Direct and reliable journey times.
River taxi on the Sava
From the Belgrade Waterfront promenade to Surčin by water. Unconventional, but genuinely fast — zero traffic jams.
✈️
Archer air taxi
Belgrade is planning to launch an air taxi network in time for the opening — making it one of the first cities in Europe with this technology.
XMetr tip

Choose an apartment within walking distance of a BG Voz station — it’s the only transport that definitely won’t be stuck in traffic in the summer of 2027.

Where to Rent an Apartment

The short answer: the closer to EXPO, the more expensive and the fewer long-term options. But there are three areas where a sensible balance of price, convenience, and availability will hold — even at the height of the event.

Novi Beograd — Blocks 45, 70, 72
High demand

The sweet spot: between the city centre and the EXPO site, with strong infrastructure and direct routes to the venue. During the expo, short-term rentals will dominate — long-term listings will disappear fast and prices will rise most sharply here.

FAQ

Do I need a visa to visit Serbia?
Citizens of the EU, US, UK, and many other countries can enter Serbia visa-free for up to 90 days. Check the current list at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, as rules vary by nationality.
How long should I plan for a visit?
2–3 days is a solid start for the expo itself. If you want to combine it with Belgrade sightseeing, plan 4–5 days for a more relaxed experience.
What is the expo site layout?
The 25-hectare site has three main zones: International Pavilions (130+ countries), Thematic Zone, and the Corporate & Best Practice Area with 45 modular timber pavilions. All zones are connected by a landscaped central promenade.
Where do I buy tickets?
Official tickets will be available at expobelgrade2027.org. Ticket prices have not yet been officially announced — check the official site for updates closer to the opening.
Is this the first EXPO in the Balkans?
Yes — EXPO 2027 Belgrade is the first Specialised Expo ever held in the Western Balkans, and the first world exposition in the territory of the former Yugoslavia.
What happens to the site after the expo?
The Expo Village becomes a residential neighbourhood. The National Stadium (52,000 capacity) and Aquatic Centre remain as permanent city infrastructure. The site is designed as a lasting “urban oasis” for Belgrade.

Visitor Checklist

Planning ahead makes the difference between a stressful trip and a great one. Here’s what to sort before you arrive.

1
Book accommodation early
Good zones disappear first — not the cheapest ones. Lock in your apartment before prices peak in early 2027.
2
Check visa requirements
Most visitors from EU, US, and UK don’t need a visa. Verify your country’s status at the Serbian MFA website before booking flights.
3
Buy tickets online in advance
Official tickets at expobelgrade2027.org. Avoid queues — peak days (opening week, National Days) will be busiest.
4
Plan your transport route
Find the nearest BG Voz station to your accommodation. Add 20–40 minutes buffer on peak EXPO days — especially opening week and weekends.
5
Check your country’s National Day
Each of the 130+ participating countries gets a dedicated day. These are the most atmospheric days to visit — full cultural programme, food, and performances.
6
Don’t try to do everything in one day
The site has three distinct zones. Pick your priorities — 2–3 days gives a solid experience. Staying longer in Belgrade means you can return without the pressure.
